HOW QETOE WORKS.
STEP 1 : Your body will always burn carbs first before it burns fat. This is because carbs can be turned into energy much easier and quicker than fat. Fat is considered by the body as a 'Stored' fuel, which mean is for emergency only.
STEP 2 : After you have either gone for a huge run or been on a low carb diet for a couple of days, your carbs level drops to a level where your body will start to switch over to your fat storage. This stage is called Lipolysis. One of the byproducts of Lipolysis is Acetone. This what QETOE measures. The more acetone in your breath, the more fat you are burning. That's a big Woohoo for you.

Is measuring blood ketones (BHB) giving you a true reading?
The blood meter and the breath monitor measure different ketones. When our body burns fat, ketones are produced. The blood meter measures a ketone called Beta-hydroxybutyrate
(BHB) and the breath monitor measure another ketone called Acetone. Our body and organs use BHB for fuel, and that is how our body can function without glucose or carbs. Acetone, however, is highly toxic, and the body removes all of it out. The longer you have been in Ketosis, the more efficient the body gets in using BHB. It only produces just enough of BHB for what it needs. Your blood meter reading will actually reads lower with time!
However, the level of acetone doesn’t change over time because the body has no use for it, therefore a better indicator if you are in Ketosis or not.
